Concussion

A concussion is a type of brain injury. Concussions range in severity but most of the time they are considered a mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI). Concussions are usually, but not always, caused by hitting your head against something. Violent head movement alone can also cause a concussion. A primary sign that a person has sustained a concussion is having an alteration of consciousness. This means that a person has either passed out for some period of time, or became dazed and confused. Some of the other signs and symptoms that may be associated with a concussion include; headache, memory loss, vomiting, nausea, dizziness, blurred vision, and ringing in the ears.

What are a few possible causes of concussion?

  1. Auto accidents. (with or without hitting your head against something in the vehicle)
  2. Falling and hitting your head against something.
  3. A blow to the head during a sporting event. (football)

Post Concussive Syndrome (PCS)

Post concussive syndrome is a syndrome that comes after a concussion has occurred. The syndrome may be described as a continuation of the symptoms that occur as a result of the concussion. These symptoms may include; headache, confusion, memory loss, vomiting, nausea, dizziness, blurred vision, and ringing in the ears. The symptoms may last up to several weeks depending on the severity of the concussion.
